History
A History of Community Commerce
- Since 1944
The Foundation
(1944–1954)
Officially incorporated on May 1, 1944, our journey began as the Morrisburg Board of Trade. During this founding decade, the organization established the initial framework for business cooperation in the thriving village.
The Post-Seaway Era
(1954–1998)
On June 18, 1954, we transitioned to the Morrisburg Chamber of Commerce. This period saw us support local business through immense change, including the critical St. Lawrence Seaway project and the subsequent relocation of the downtown core.
A Unified Future
(1998–Present)
Our final and current identity was established on December 3, 1998, officially becoming the South Dundas Chamber of Commerce. This renaming directly followed the municipal amalgamation, representing our expanded mandate to serve all communities within the newly formed Township of South Dundas.
Moving Forward
Today, we carry that rich history forward, ensuring that the spirit of local enterprise and strong community bonds remain central to our purpose. We proudly work alongside our affiliates at the Ontario and Canadian Chambers of Commerce to bring world-class benefits and advocacy home to South Dundas.

They are responsible for ensuring the Chamber remains financially sound, highly relevant to our membership, and acts as the principal advocate for the economic interests of all businesses across South Dundas. By contributing their unique insights from various sectors—from agriculture to retail—they ensure our initiatives truly reflect the diverse needs of our local economy.
